Hybrid modelers like Rhino offer a mix of two different modeling styles in one package. We have Surface Modeling which allows us to make very detailed, visually interesting 3D shapes and Solid Modeling which is generally more precise and geared to modeling things that will exist in real life. Rhino uses a combination of surfaces and solids to create 3D models and it works quite well with both.

It also works with polygonal or Mesh Models allowing for applications like 3D printing, 3D scanning and imports from other 3D programs. This gives us a flexible approach to modeling that allows for a more intuitive workflow. Rhino's also great for many other things that come along with solid and surface modeling tools that includes rendering, drafting, surface analysis, physics simulations just to name a few.
